kayak. canoe. row. sail.

Watch passing ships and fishing boats or adventure to sea yourself … go fishing, as Sooke is justly renowned for fantastic year round freshwater and saltwater angling. Waterborne, visitors also kayak, canoe, row or sail to explore the endless coves and inlets of our coastline. Keep company with the King of Kelps … the Bull Kelp anchored in our cove is one of the largest west coast seaweeds, growing as much as 12 meters in a single season.

be at home
with wildlife.

Reflect on time and tide … water and wind erode the rocks over time, producing fantastical galleries and crags housing inter tidal life. Starfish, sea anemones, sponges, crabs and mussels inhabit shimmering tide pools. One species, the Ochre Sea Star, a 12-armed creature that preys on mussels and barnacles, is most often seen in a tidal pool shaded by sea lettuce, or clinging to coastal rocks.

Read a story in stone, on a seaweed fringed pebble beach in a cove shaped by sedimentary rock. Study this rock of ages in strata of sandstone, conglomerate and shale. Wonder at the why of waves as they break rhythmically onto the shore: no two waves are identical. Experience a solitary sunrise, or unwind under a brilliant starry sky on our pristine private beach.
