Further west, French Beach and China Beach parks beckon to beachcombers and birders to enjoy pounding surf or peaceful forest trails. Watch the wind surfers where the Jordan River meets the ocean swells. Explore our coastline up close with a walk on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, or undertake a more arduous hike on the famous West Coast Trail. Venture out to the very end of West Coast Road to visit the marine classroom of Botanical Beach and the remote picturesque village of Port Renfrew. birding paradise.

Pack a picnic and your swimsuit to the Sooke Potholes Park, a sun-baked swimming hole on the unspoiled Sooke River … or visit the Potholes in the Fall to see the salmon spawning. Sooke’s SeaParc Leisure Centre has a swimming pool and sauna open year round for aquatic recreation, and an arena open for ice skating and hockey games during the winter. treehugger:
